Things I just wanted to write down...

Personal websites suck. Who would ever want to read about you, your girlfriend, your family, dog or even your thoughts? This web page sucks also.

Mar 14, 2008: Symbian Signed - Harming the Open Source Community for fun and profit
Here's a good reason NOT TO BUY Symbian S60v3 phones (including Nokia E90 and N95): You can't install free-, freeware- or even open source software on it. Why? It has all to do with trust. That is they ("the industry") has decided not to trust you -> the user.

Some weeks back I wanted to install an Open Source VNC Viewer on my Nokia E90. I was really excited. Wow, soon I can reboot our windows servers (the standard way of fixing windows) from a bar (an establishment I like to visit frequently) and I don't have to rush to a secure computer. It turned out that I need to self-sign the application before my Nokia agrees to install it. Fair enough, let's go ahead and sign the package then. Now the only way to sign the package is by getting an signing certificate from Symbian Signed (http://www.symbiansigned.com/) but they have disabled open signed certificates from everyone else than publishers (the companies paying them for their lousy service). Thus here I am unable to install applications on my phone because some greedy company that obviously employs unskilled people can not get their website and very simple system fixed in several weeks. I mean geez...if something like this would have happened in the company I work for, it would have been fixed in a number of hours.

Could someone please crack s60v3 so we can disable the certificate checking completely? Ok, thanks, bye!

Feb 18, 2008: Don't buy any Linksys products
I strongly recommend against buying any Linksys gear in Finland. Linksys doesn't have any support what so ever in or near Finland (and probably none in the whole Scandinavia region). I'm currently stuck with a brand new RVS4000 "Gigabit Security Router with VPN" which didn't work from day one and a SD2008 Gigabit Switch which died on me after two months of use. I've tried to get in touch with Linksys support for 4 months but it has proven to be night impossible. Sure they do have support contact information very well hidden but when you try to contact them, you get no answer. I repeat do not buy any Linksys gear in Finland or you'll be sorry when it breaks.

Feb 18, 2008: If you buy Nokia E90 Communicator, you don't get a real GPS Navigator
I've had my nokia E90 Communicator for some time now. I was really exited about the GPS and Nokia Maps application when I first got it. I remember when I started it for the first time it asked if I would like to try some free subscription service for three days. I was too excited to read what it was all about and just clicked yeah, sure ... just give me my damn GPS Navigator on screen now. And sure enough, the Nokia Maps application worked even better than expected.

After that first try I never actually had any real use for the GPS Navigator feature, until a few days back. I started the Nokia Maps application, entered my destination address and selected "Navigate to". The damn thing announced that "Voice-guided navigation is an extra service which needs to be activated for a selected region/period of time. Choose region and period of time in the next steps.". Now hold on a minute. The damn thing was almost 1'000 euros (yes that's one-thousand-euros), you'd expect that for that sum you'd get the GPS Navigaion as well.

My suggestion to you if you want to get a GPS Navigator and a cell phone, buy a TomTom and a phone separately. If you already have a Nokia E90 Communicator, then get the newest version of Route66 for Sumbian s60 v3. Don't support the greedy bastards.

Update Sep 10, 2008: Rumor has it that you can get TomTom for E90 that uses the internal GPS. Try searching "TomTom Navigator S60v3 Nokia N95 Internal GPS WORKING BiNPDA v6." at TPB. Don't support the greedy bastards at Mokia!
